A large, long-tailed, thrushlike bird of dense forests. Larger than Chinese Hwamei and lighter underneath with a black necklace and pale band near the tip of the tail. Shy and difficult to see well. Usually found in small flocks. Prefers wet forest in lowlands, often near streams. Song is a series of loud whistles, not as long or varied as that of hwamei. Native to southeast Asia and introduced to the Hawaiian Islands where it only occurs on Kauai.
