A uniformly dark chocolate-brown, large-sized shearwater of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Long, pale, pink-white bill with sharply hooked dark tip. The legs are a pinkish color, which sets them apart from other dark shearwaters in the Pacific which have mostly or entirely dark feet. Mostly solitary at sea but do congregate in popular foraging spots. Often seen following fishing boats. Breeds on islands off the coast of southern Australia and northern New Zealand.
