Small finch of forest canopy; often seen perched on bare branches. Males have yellow forecrown and belly contrasting with dark throat; females mostly dull yellow and green. Usually in pairs or small groups; may sit motionless for long periods before flying off into the distance. Found in a variety of forest types including coastal and savanna forest; usually in the canopy and at fruiting trees. Frequently heard call a plaintive, doubled whistle. Male is very similar to Purple-throated Euphonia but more richly colored below; female is similar to Violaceous Euphonia and best distinguished by attendant males.
