Identification
Tiny songbird of forested mountains and the upper reaches of hills and valleys. Adult male dark blue above and pale creamy white below with black stripe and brilliantly red patch like a bloodstain on the breast. Female much plainer, brownish-olive above and off-white below; lacks white throat of Plain and female Scarlet-backed Flowerpeckers. Song, given from a high and exposed perch, is a series of high buzzing notes followed by a trill.
