Tiny and visually striking hummingbird. Its mostly dark green upper parts are bisected by a pale rump band. Note the gray belly and rufous tail. Males are dazzling with a ruff of green feathers with pale tips on neck. Females are plainer with a dark face and pale throat. Usually found in humid forest, including second growth.
