Identification

Breeding males spectacular with bright yellow head and underbody, contrasting with black collar and gray back. Nonbreeding males less conspicuous, dull yellow with dark cheek patches isolated in yellow face (also present in the gray juveniles) and a gray crown and back. White wingbars conspicuous in all plumages. More tied to water than Western Yellow Wagtails; usually seen at marshes and lake edges. Contact call "tsriip" harsher than Western Yellow Wagtails.
