Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

A large, relatively dull francolin with black around the eyes and pale buff on the lightly marked neck and underparts. The bill and legs are red. Found at middle elevations in dry rocky and scrubby habitat, often in pairs or small groups. Similar to Chestnut-naped Francolin but much less colorful, and ranges don’t seem to overlap. The call is a repeated loud, grating “kek” or “ker-krek.”
