Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

The scaly breast of this forktail makes it unmistakable, but its most striking feature is the bright rufous crown and nape, and in the case of the female, the upper back as well. Found along forested streams in lowland and foothills, where it can often be found perched on waterside rocks. Can be quite shy, flushing away into better-covered recesses when disturbed. Gives high thin whistles.
