Miniature version of Canada Goose with smaller body, shorter neck, and stubbier bill. Many are only slightly larger than Mallards. Some populations are darker breasted than most Canada Geese and have a prominent white neck collar. Breeds farther north and west than Canada Goose. Occurs in small numbers in eastern U.S.; more common in western U.S. and Canada. Often forms mixed flocks with other species of geese. Herbivorous. Includes four subspecies: Aleutian, Richardson's, minima, and Taverner's. Richardson's is farthest east, found in the central part of the continent. Aleutian and minima are restricted to the West Coast.
