A large swift of lowland and foothill forests. Dark brown overall with a small white eyebrow and a large white patch between the belly and tail. Sharp ‘needles’ on the tail are occasionally seen when the tail is fanned open, but tend to be invisible when the bird is in flight. Dark throat distinguishes this species from most other needletails in its range.
