Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

Chunky, rounded songbird with heavy thick bill, found in mangroves of northern Australia. Male has olive-yellow back, black head, white chin, bright yellow underparts, and thick yellow hindcollar. Female plain gray above, paler gray below, with yellow undertail and in some subspecies a yellow belly. Very similar to Golden Whistler, so note range, which only overlaps along the east coast of Queensland. Calls include a loud piercing whistle with a whip-like ending.
