Fairly common but restricted to brushy oak woodlands in Texas and northeastern Mexico. Gray overall with paler underparts, orangey sides, and distinctive black crest. Often in flocks with other small songbirds. Listen for clear whistled song and harsh scolds. Visits feeders.
