Identification
Large, elegant hummingbird with a short straight bill and black streaks below its eyes. Shining green above and brilliant white below. The tail is long and white with a black center. The male has glittering purple patch on the ear coverts, lacking in the female, and a green or white throat depending on the subspecies. Found in humid moist forest and forest edges.
