Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

Dull, relatively unmarked olive-brown warbler with a prominent yellowish-white eyestripe, faint wing bars, and pale underparts; note white throat and off-white belly. Visually inseparable from Japanese and Kamchatka Leaf Warblers; listen for song, an unremarkable chattery trill. Breeds in shrubby areas, often near water, and winters in lowland and foothill forest, forest edge, and gardens. Breeds throughout the Eurasian taiga, with a small range in Alaska, where it is the only "Old World warbler."
