Medium-sized hummingbird that occurs from western Venezuela to Bolivia. Some variation throughout range, but look for male’s purple throat and a conspicuous buffy or white band across the upper chest. Female has buffy throat, sometimes with a little bit of purple in the center. Like other sunangels, holds wings up for a second or two after it lands. Occurs in and around humid forest from 1,900 to 2,700 m; visits feeders.
