Quail-like bird, found primarily in agricultural fields and edges in small flocks. Plump, grayish-brown overall with salmon-colored face and broken rufous stripes on sides. Only male has dark belly patch; female generally more washed out. Look for rufous edges of tail in flight. Native in Eurasia and introduced to North America, primarily along the Canada-United States border.
