New Hampshire

Don’t Google that Bird!

Whether you simply watch the birds that come to your yard or actively bird local parks or New Hampshire’s many sanctuaries and conservation lands, you’ve probably seen a bird you just can’t identify. One of the first things you might try to do is google it based on color, but this can be quite exasperating. For example “yellow bird” comes up with lyrics to a Mills Brothers Song, a spicy sauce, an auto center and even deep sea fishing! You’ll finally find hundreds of images of yellow birds that include Big Bird and Tweetie Bird, but not the New Hampshire bird you saw! Well now, with a Facebook account, you can post your photo or ask your questions on a Facebook page devoted specifically to the identification and appreciation of New Hampshire Birds. Find out all about the Facebook group BWoNH in the Summer 2019 issue of New Hampshire Bird Records: https://nhbirdrecords.org/nhbr-pdfs/V38%20N2%20Summer%202019.pdf. (“Bird Watchers of New Hampshire on Facebook” begins on page 29).

Other articles in this issue include: Birding the Mount Washington Valley-Part 2; The Next Ten Species Predictions-How Did We Do?; The Ospreys are Back in the Strafford County Complex!; field notes from the 2019 summer season and much more!. Enjoy them all!

New Hampshire Bird Records is providing free access to its archives during the Covid-19 outbreak to help birders find information on birding locally and to remind us of the joy of birding.
