Introducing eBird Projects

eBird Projects are here—a new framework that enhances how eBird data is collected and shared for conservation initiatives. This new feature makes it easier than ever to join in targeted data collection efforts such as Bird Atlases, the International Shorebird Survey, or the Caribbean Waterbird Census. For the initial release, existing data collection efforts will be supported (targeted efforts that used to be under Atlas portals and “Other” protocols). In the coming years we hope to add more eBird Projects as the platform develops.

How It Works

Join an eBird Project – Each project has a dedicated overview page with expanded resources and guidance from project coordinators, including details on where and how to participate. Look for information on eBird Projects from our partners near you.

Go eBirding – Select from the eBird Projects you’ve joined when starting a checklist on the eBird app or website (or use the Atlas-specific web portal for Bird Atlases). Your checklist will automatically display relevant data fields, ensuring your observations support project efforts.

Easily find and submit checklists from designated Project-specific locations on the eBird website and mobile app.

Make a Difference – You can now contribute data to multiple projects with a single checklist where applicable. Do your shorebird survey and Atlas at the same time!

eBird Projects also make it easier to see the impact of your birding. Project overview pages highlight recent checklists, all-time totals, and top contributors. On the eBird website, submitted checklists display banners indicating which projects they are associated with.

New Project overview pages feature recent checklists, real-time stats, resources and instructions on how to join.

For more information, visit the eBird Projects help page. Thank you to all the partners and collaborators that work together on eBird Projects, and we look forward to supporting more eBird Projects in the years to come as we develop the platform.
