Perfect timing with the tide; lots of shorebirds coming in as I reached the southern edge of the beach. Surprisingly cold air coming in on the flats but quite warm back up the beach. Warmed to 77°F with the sun beginning to peak through the overcast sky.

  8. Number observed: 80

Details: Conservative count, was able to get over 50 on one pass of just close birds (not using scope across flats). All adults; one in alternate plumage

  9. Dunlin x White-rumped Sandpiper (hybrid)

    Number observed: 1

Details: Putative ID | Appeared as breeding plumaged adult WRSA in field; white rump observed and poorly photo'd. Bill is all dark, lacking pink-based mandible of WRSA, and shows a more distinct droop near tip (similar to DUNL) than an WRSA I've seen. Streaking on flanks and undertail also seems more typical of this hybrid combo.

  11. Number observed: 1

Details: **rare | classic juvenile with prominent red upper scapulars. Long narrow bill with slight droop. Dark legs appeared longer than adjacent SESAs. Bright white belly with white extending up in front of wing giving it a paler/brighter look (underneath) among the SESA flock.
