As winter settles across the land, so do the winter migrants. Birders from across the country are reporting expected and unexpected species, and this winter has been absolutely riveting thus far! What birds can you expect in your region at this time of the year? Do check out the eBird bar charts to find out. Also check out the new Explore Species feature on eBird.

Events and Challenges

The 5th edition of the annual Tamil Birders’ Meet took place in Rajapalyam earlier this month on 01 and 02 December. The Coringa Bird Festival – the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh – will be held at the Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary on 14 and 15 December. For more information regarding that festival, click here or contact the organisers at coringabirdfestival@gmail.com.

The 2nd Kheoni Winter Bird Survey at Dewas in Madhya Pradesh will be held from 07 to 09 December. The 4th annual Dombivali Bird Race (in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region) will take place on 30th December 2018.

The monthly eBirding Challenge for December focusses on uploading as many lists with media as possible. The global eBirder of the Month Challenge asks users to upload 3 or more lists on at least one day in December.

Here’s wishing everyone  the best of birding as the year draws to a close!
