eBird photo + sound quiz

eBird and the Macaulay Library have a fun new tool: the eBird photo + sound quiz. Quiz yourself on 20 images or sounds from birds anywhere in the world, all based on media uploaded by eBirders everywhere. Warning: your spare time may never be the same.

Practice at home, or prepare for an upcoming trip

Pick a location and date to build a custom quiz of 20 multiple choice questions chosen from the likely birds in the area (calculated from your eBird checklists). Your challenge is to correctly identify the bird in each photo or sound selected from the millions of assets in the Macaulay Library’s archive.  Each quiz is a unique challenge, with magazine quality images to documentation shots and recordings—the way you might encounter birds in the field—pulled from anywhere the species is found. Can you get all 20 correct?! We hope this will be a fun tool for practicing bird ID and for just exploring photos of birds.

Help curate the Macaulay Library archive

Each quiz you take helps tag and rate media in the Macaulay Library. With more than 6 million photos and sounds in the archive, these ratings and tags are critical to our ability to use this media effectively. So while you practice your bird ID skills, you help us improve tools like the Merlin Bird ID app, eBird Illustrated Checklist, and Neotropical Birds. Check out our Rating and Tagging page to see examples and learn more.
