Sharon Aagaard and Stan Wood birded with 2 others at Eastside Audubon's monthly bird walk at Lake Sammamish State Park on Feb 27, 2015, from 8:00 am to 11:30 am. Skies were cloudy, with light misting off and on; 47-52F, 0-2 mph. HIGHLIGHTS: enjoyed watching an adult Bald Eagle launch downwards from a high perch on one of the Cottonwood trees near the mouth of Issaquah Creek, and skimmed low and fast over the lake towards 3 Western Grebes, who were about 400 yards out. The Grebes saw the Eagle coming and all dove, remaining under until the Eagle had turned around and flew back towards the shore. Later in the morning, we looked east, high up over the meadows and spotted at least 2 white-bellied swallows. Overall, the birds today were low in species and relatively quiet (both in main park and boat launch). 38 species for the day, with 72 for the year. Critters: Eastern Gray Squirrels. The next bird walk is Wednesday, MARCH 25. No pre-registration, just show up depending on your mood or the weather. Since this is a state park, a Discover Pass is necessary to park ($10 daily, $30 annual). We meet in the large parking lot to the left just inside the main park entrance, now signed as the Costco Parking lot, but we meet at the far end towards the lake (not the boat launch entrance).Submitted from BirdLog NA for Android v1.96.
