Details: These birds were photographed and seen very well through the underbrush 1000 feet lower than bicknelli. Neither minimus came very far out from the underbrush but we did get to all see multiple observations in good lighting conditions. The pictures speak to this. Compared to bicknelli, I find minimus to be plumper (lack of a better word at the moment) than bicknelli with a darker malar strip and cheek patch. I have had encounters with Gray-cheeked on Mount Desert Island. For the four of us we heard clear distinction between both species (C bicnelli and minumus). Mating calls and call notes easily identified this bird with four seasoned birders hearing the interaction and later comparing to bicknelli. I was using a Sibley app in a restricted but effective way that which stimulated a long session with chip notes and repeated and replicated calling from minimus . The level of confidence in this report is 100 percent and verified by others in the group of five.
