Observations

  1. Number observed: X

    Details: A couple, a couple different places. Especially, on the lawn at the western end of the breast of the dam.

  2. Number observed: X

    Details: Two or three flushed from the extreme end of the NE cove and a pair flew out from under an overhanging black gum tree in the little tiny cove (not the one with the old slate quarry) just west of the north parking lot / launch as I approached.

    Details: Around launch when I started, and a couple on the lawn by the west parking lot /dam breast / purple martin boxes.

    Details: At least two in tree in early AM and the best pictures are from a rock on the shore at the corner of the lawn of the western parking lot at 1:50 PM. Before that dove landed, I was remarking to myself that I don't think I'd seen Asiatic Dayflower since the spring of 1978 and was preparing to get out of my kayak and take pictures.

    Details: On gravelly beach just north of the entrance to the western cove that ends with the weeping willows.

    Details: Two or three places around lake.

    Details: Walking / feeding along the western shore of the island heading in a northward direction. I slipped my kayak in in front of it and beached the nose for stability and waited for it to approach. It did so. It had at least one successful catch about 20 feet away. Then a groundhog came down just on the other side of my kayak and when next I saw the egret it was hopping over the nose of my kayak to continue feeding.

    Details: In large dead tree with kill at eastern end of first eastern cove north of the SE launch.

    Details: Calling / laughing shortly after I disembarked. Did not see.

    Details: heard then seen in distance on far northern shore of NE cove just as I was about to enter it.

    Details: There were still like two hanging around down by the breast of the dam.

    Details: Several. Checking out a dead tree in one of the eastern inlets that had nesting cavities.
