Details: all together on pool on south side of compost complex; these appeared almost uniformly mixed male and female, many clearly in pairs

Details: Adult, a bird that I think has been here in past years. A dark shade of gray on mantle but not as dark as usual for the species, but clearly darker than adjacent Herrings and paler than adult Great Black-backeds. Legs and feet ochre (yellowish) but not bright yellow (yet? bird still with basic head feathering streaks, and this leg and foot color typical for winter and subadults). Head streaking typical of Lesser Black-backed, being fine and more or less confined to crown, face, where a bit concentrated around eye, and nape. Size and shape: smaller and slimmer than all Herring Gulls present for comparison, looking long-winged. Bill slim and typical of LBBG, yellow with large red gonydeal patch. Eyes light straw. Orbital ring not discerned at distance. If this is the same bird as in the past, I have wondered if it is a hybrid or backcross (with Herring) based on somewhat paler than expected mantle and primary tip pattern, which was not seen. Bright sunlight today made all gulls appear paler, however.
