Observations

  1. Number observed: 2
  2. Number observed: 4

Details: 2 calling in NE corner pond, 2 in pond near the dog park / softball field area.

  3. Number observed: 6
  4. Number observed: 2

    Details: Chased by merlin.

  5. Number observed: 3
  6. Number observed: 5
  7. Number observed: 2
  8. Number observed: 3
  9. Number observed: 1

Details: Blew through, chasing after mourning doves. Had not seen one previously this winter, though I suspect some roam the area. Passerine volume in the park was low this winter (in my opinion), so that may be related.

  10. Number observed: 8
  11. Number observed: 2

    Details: Continuing from aqueduct

  12. Number observed: 6
  13. Number observed: 3
  14. Number observed: 1

Details: Assuming this is too early for migrants, then this is the continuing bird that has gone unreported for a while. Poor phone photos taken of a very confiding bird.

Note after the fact: I noted a comment from Marshall at Millennium Park wondering whether there was some local movement of this species today, despite being a few weeks early for expected migrants. I would agree that local dispersal may explain this, vs. the continuing wintering bird. I do not recall seeing any sightings of the over-wintering bird for a few weeks (I think mid Feb), despite the park receiving some close attention from some skilled observers who had previously been able to find this species in the park earlier this winter (I consistently missed it). The bird seen today was very active, seen in two different places 200+ meters apart giving small bursts of song. If not for the fact that it was March 18, I would have assumed it was a migrant based on behavior. Interesting...
