Sue also observing today. Overcast with light rain stopping for a couple of hours on either side of noon and then returning as rain during mid-afternoon, temps 39 to 44 F, winds from the NE at 10 mph or slightly lower at treetop level and above and slowly swinging around to the NW, light to approaching calm near ground level. Duration consisted of mostly 5-minute observations made intermittently during the day.

    Details: Continuing adult male with red nape, faintly brown rictal bristles (changed) and no black bars on dorsal side of white outer rectrices [this bird has picked up some faintly brown discoloration on its white outer rectrices] (local territory holder);
    Continuing adult male with red nape, white rictal bristles and 2 strong black bars (one approaching a blotch) on dorsal surface of white outer rectrices;
    Continuing female with no red on head, white rictal bristles and no black bars on dorsal side of white outer rectrices (local territory holder);

    Details: Continuing 4Y male first seen as a juvenile the fall of ‘17 while molting into formative plumage (pale buffy ventrally and entire supercilium white, this year somewhat darker buffy ventrally with entire supercilium still white, took over as resident male when previous male disappeared during the summer of ’18;

    Continuing TY bird (sex unknown) with entire supercilium buffy, was pale buffy ventrally when first seen as a juvenile in late summer of ’18, now after its formative molts, ventral surface is still relatively pale but somewhat stronger buffy and supercilium is still all buffy but somewhat lighter than before;

    Breedinging pair from the last two seasons were foreign g together in the dry leaves just under the raised sill of the shed;

    Details: One with moderately strong reddish on head and breast at the safflower feeder with 2 with no reddish in their plumage:
    Late afternoon: Two with moderate reddish on head and breast feeding on the safflower feeder;

    ~ 1/2 hour later: Four were seen feeding in the same area;

    A short time later: Four with solid slate-gray dorsa and four with lighter gray dorsa with some brown;
    Mid-afternoon: flock of 9, two with solid slate-gray dorsa and seven with lighter gray dorsa with some brown;
    Shortly afterward: Flock had flown away and soon returned with 13 birds, seven with solid slate-gray dorsa and six with lighter gray dorsa with some brown;

    Details: The brown one with the small yellow breast patches fed on suet bits at the small hanging platform feeder;
    [Note: this means that all 3 of the YRWA seen here this winter have appeared in the past 2 days.]
    Later: The other brownish one, the one with the strong black line through its eye and the larger yellow breast patches fed on suet bits at the small hanging platform feeder;

    Details: Female# 2 fed at the metal-cabin sunflower feeder;
    A short time later: Male# 1 seen feeding on the ground between the two Ilex bushes near the shed and soon afterward at the safflower feeder;
    ~ an hour later: Male# 2 with the shield-shaped black throat patch seen at the same feeder;
