  3. Number observed: 4

Details: A remarkable sighting. Two birds came in fairly low from the S, and at first I expected they would be Turkey Vultures — unusual enough at this season — but even before I got the glass on them their rapid bursts of flapping were noticeable. Under magnification the white primary bases, short tails, and thick short necks were all clearly seen. The two birds passed off to the NW where they formed into a kettle with two others that were already circling over the N side of Laurel Hill to the W. From a distance their short tails and rapid bursts of flapping gave their flight an almost bat-like character. About ten minutes later this same group of four reappeared passing over together directly to the S between the park grounds and Laurel Hill (perhaps having realized they had made a wrong turn somewhere).
