Overcast and chilly with moderate north winds and intermittent rain. For about 15 minutes, I was just sitting in my car waiting out a rainstorm. Nearly all of the time, I was at the viewing pond near the north end.

    Details: It was mobbing one of the immature Bald Eagles.

    Details: Both of the immatures were scavenging on the same white goose carcass, though not at the same time. The first eagle to arrive was chased away by the Northern Harrier.

    Details: Another Barn Swallow was foraging over the viewing pond west of the highway. Identified by: swallow body shape and aerial foraging behavior; long, forked tail; entirely dark upperparts; and pale underparts with contrasting dark throat. Possibly one of the same birds that was on the South Loop earlier in the day.
