Cloudy to overcast, S winds 10+ mph, 50°F. Kayaked out to island and spent a while exploring the different parts of the island. Really cool place, and hugely overlooked. Seems like it has great migrant potential, especially on a wave day (maybe a place to hit at dawn?) The majority of the island is covered in low cranberries and is largely (or entirely) birdless. This actually isnt that bad for migrants as everything is concentrated at a few spots (from most to least birdy): the ravine running vaguely e-w parallel (north of) the tracks/boardwalk, the small patches of spruces on the w side of the island s of the boardwalk, the large myrtles (i think?) running by the boardwalk on the e side of the island, spring/pond on s side of the island (while there were few migrants here today, the potential was obvious—likely a place birds congregate early to drink?), and finally the small swale on the NE side of the island. Yellow-rumps were everywhere today, and dominated all of these spots w the notable exception of the ravine, the only place where there were more non-yellow rumps than yellow-rumps.
Also goats!! There were many goats, but most were scared. Luckily gandolf wasn’t scared and happily ate my birdseed.
