Comments: Good looks. Odd bird. Rough, messy-looking grayish sparrow without caramel breast or orange facial tones; dull, eyering, slight streaks on mostly greyish underside. Tail medium length; didn’t look or behave like any of the expected migrant sparrows. Scrabbling in scrubby grass in the gravel dump when I walked up; perched silently under a poverty bush for 15 mins; it was aware of me and dropped down into the grass a couple of times in response to me, but didn’t leave the bush until I got up. It didn’t respond to playback of Cassins or a screech owl (but remained in place while other birds flew into its bush.) I’ve noticed these singing during breeding season in nearby farm fields along 151.
