Viewed from private dock but all of this could be seen from Grays Beach Park. Witnessed a pre-roost staging phenomenon, with gulls pouring in from all angles, from Duxbury to Plymouth. Checked carefully for rarities but obviously could have missed something.

Observations

  1. Number observed: 3
  2. Number observed: 1450

Comments: Huge numbers gathering on Grays Beach and water and rocks just in front of the park — moving out into a raft in middle of bay at 7:22. At one point there were 700 gulls on the small beach, with several additional rafts on water. Flocks coming in from Plymouth direction until dusk, at that point flying directly to the raft instead of the beach. Beach = pre roost staging, before hopping out to raft roost. About 60/40 adult to juvenile, though that’s a rough estimate.

Counted gulls every few minutes, from 1,100 to 1,700 to finally 2,100. Vast majority Laughing Gull, Extrapolated to this number by estimated ratios of raft through scope.

cell phone video as portion of flock left Grays Beach and headed out to raft up on the bay at 7:22

  3. Number observed: 500
