Details: Very large accipitor, heavily streaked below all the way down through the undertail. Thick white supercilium. First seen perched in large tree east of old church. As soon as my binoculars went up it flushed and flew south east. I followed, trying to take an oblique path so as not to flush it again. I found it perched just south of the southeastern most house and as soon as I put my bins up it flushed again, this time west. I walked around on the paved road that goes to the beach and this time it was perched on the goal post in the football field. I managed to get about a half second of a look through bare trees before it flushed due north, low over the field, and flushed the gulls and brant from by the puddle. It took a half-hearted swipe at a HERG and then continued west, past the large, derelict building with the broken windows. Subsequent attempts to refind it were not successful. When perched and in flight it appeared robust, with a bulky chest. Body looked attenuated below the chest, long and tapering. Flight was powerful and direct though wings appeared more pointed then accipiters’ wings normally do. Almost undoubtedly the same bird seen by D. Gochfeld yesterday.
