I mostly birded along the toll road lake crossing, but a few sightings were from the free road crossing. In spite of very abundant rains, the east lake is still not full, and the western section is quite shallow. Most Ducks, Phalaropes, Avocets, Stilts, and Sandpipers were seen just to the west of the toll road.

Observations

  1. Number observed: 100
  2. Number observed: 1500

Details: Rare for this date and location, huh? The first photo is to establish the ID clearly. But I estimate the second photo represents around a sixth of the total group I saw; it was taken as I held the camera on a single point, while the flock flew past it. I should clarify that some of these teals could have been Cinnamons, but their wing pattern makes any other IDs impossible.

Details: I believe I've written this before in my reports: the Cinnamon Teal is a summer resident in Lake Cuitzeo. Why is it not on our list?

Details: It was a rare privilege to see a couple of clearly defined families of this species.

Details: Admittedly, the picture is poor. But I believe the bill size and head pattern show a Franklin's, and not a Laughing.
