Details: White face. White throat. Gray cap. Thin bill. White speckles on back. This Loon is getting darker around the head and nape. It would be nice if it stayed long enough to see it in it's adult breeding plumage instead of the non-breeding plumage that it is now in.

  18. Number observed: 1

Details: Black head and bill. White checkered back. Larger than the Red-throated Loon that is also on Crystal Reservoir. Heavier body than the Red-throated Loon. Thicker bill than the Red-throated Loon. A beautiful breeding Loon.

  20. Number observed: 80

Details: When I first counted them they were huddled together at the Southeast end of Crystal Reservoir. Opening their wings and stretching their bills. My first count was 55 birds. I walked over the dyke and counted them again and got 66 this time. When they took flight I counted them again and there were 80.
