Details: Early in the morning, among our first birds of the day, we first heard the odd groaning call of this species and observed two of them flying over the tops of the mesquite trees from near the entrance welcome center. Small (Fish-Crow-sized) all-black birds with typical crow shape and flight style. About 15 minutes later we again heard the low groaning calls, and spotted movement through the trees. I got a brief but clear and distinct view of an entire flock of these birds, all of them identically crow-shaped with crow flight style, and apparently all black in color, flying low over the treetops, numbering probably about 30 but definitely more than 20. ... I was astounded by this, but later upon talking to the man at the desk, learned that the crows apparently pass through Sabal Palm while shuttling between the Matamoros and Brownsville Dumps, and that such numbers were not unusual. He told me that a flock of 18 Tamaulipas Crows were seen yesterday and that up to 36 had been seen in recent weeks/months.
