Details: An individual bird was picked out among the various shorebirds, most notably an assembly of Black-bellied Plovers, that was identified as this species. It was a compact, deep-bodied shorebird like the plovers, but had a longer, tapered bill. In form, it resembled the Red Knot that I am familiar with along the Atlantic shore of North America, but it very nearly approached the size of the plovers. The bird was inactive, so I did not see the rump.

Details: Birds of this species were noted in association with the more numerous Common Redshanks on the sandflats. The birds were close to the size of the Commons, perhaps a bit larger, with a somewhat longer, nearly all-black bill. They were conspicuous in flight compared to the Commons with no white trailing edge to the wings.
