  6. Northern Pintail x Green-winged Teal (hybrid)

    Number observed: 1

Comments: Photo to come. A very odd female Anas duck. She was fairly large (Wigeon/Pintail sized). Scaly back and flanks similar to a female Pintail, but with smooth gray tertials. Tail long and tapered. Head shape quite rounded, with stout neck unlike Pintail. Bill medium-length, narrow; slaty-gray with darker center line. Fine brown vermiculation on head, with darker eyeline, very much like female Green-winged Teal. Iridescent green speculum with white border. Frequent short diving in shallow water at the river's edge.

Our conclusion was most likely a female NOPI/GWTE hybrid, but feedback is welcome.
