    Details: In slightly wet paddy. Very dark compared to Little Stint. Identical to Teeside bird [= first UK record] but duller plumage. Dark brown above with pale fringes. Streaks on sided of breast & neck more prominent [than on Little], with warm flush. Crown and cheeks v dark. Supercillium dusky but broad and prominent. Weak bill. Long legs and neck, round head, like a little Wood Sand - call 'joot - joot' singular or plural. V dark and slim long-winged in flight. Underwing looking dark. Also wing-bar very narrow. Picks food from surface, usually stretching upward when alert.

    Details: Called with short 'jiff' or 'jaff', or 'shrik' or 'krik'. Bulky/stubby. Short bill. Blunter wings than Common. Dull whitish-buff narrow trailing-edge to wing in flight [rather than clear white of Common]. Back-stripes duller than on Common. Underwing heavily barred.
