  1. Number observed: 5

Details: Flew north Around the point

  2. Number observed: 1

Details: Observed for 27 minutes as it swam from just off Meig's Point, north along the moraine trail drifting east (off shore) as it went. Large black-backed alcid, white below, with relatively long even bill, thicker and shorter than a common murre but thinner and slightly longer? Than a young razorbill's. Black on nape extending onto crown. Dark crown extended down below the eye with no white arc behind the eye as in razorbills or common murre. White line along the side of the bill base. Dusky on sides of throat. Dark collar extending into chest. Facing me the bird looked dark headed with white chin and chest. The white chest formed an inverted V and was edged by a dark line (ghost of alternate plumage pattern) separating it from the chin. There was a single short white wingbar. Short tail. In flight the feet stuck out beyond the tail. Underwings were pale. Photos taken. Flew at 3:05 pm and went due east out of sight. May have dropped in at the horizon. Longer bill length and plumage suggests an adult. #384
