    Details: obviously square head with very dark crown, thick neck, pale patch on the cheek behind eye sort of going down the neck, another pale patch between eye and very high based triangular bill, seen alone

    Details: Bird that came flying from the east where first seen at Ancão; huge, perhaps 120% of Mel nig (length in flight), white secondaries obvious in flight and seen also while preening, longer neck than nigra, typical head shape (with squarish peaked head, not so square as perspicillata nor rounded like nigra) forming unmistakeable concave profile with bill (no knobs or lumps); very obvious white round patch at base of bill (below lores) and more discrete cheek patch behind eye; a little yellow sometimes aparent subterminally to dark bill tip; (at least one dive with closed wings?)
