Most effort spent at rice field being "water buffaloed" immediately north of Oberlin and west of US 165. The American Avocet is new to the Parish Bird List maintained by the Shreveport, La Bird Study Group.

    Comments: Very large shorebirds with long yellow legs, mottled gray backs, ski-shaped bills. Calls - tu tu tu. Size clear based on nearby White Ibises. Just a few Lesser Yellowlegs present. These birds were in a 15+ acre ricefield that had just been water buffaloed. I basically counted the field once so I consider this to be an under-estimate.
