Bertin d'Eon and I visited a colony of terns on a tiny island near Shag Harbour. The soil portion is only about 60 feet across. Here is a Google Maps link to the island location:
https://goo.gl/maps/LJyEQGQwBfT2

We left from the Shag Harbour Wharf, but it is also very close to West Head on Cape Sable Island. There was an estimated 115 COTE and a confirmed 7 ROST.

The ROST spent most of the time on the s.w. /s. side of the island on the rocks as you can see in the photos. Some were carrying fish and were agressive towards us as if there was a nest or young. One ROST kept swooping down on the n.w./n. side of the island as if it was attempting to land among the COTE nests. The COTE were agressive towards some of the ROST.

All terns on the island are quick to land again once they lift. You can land on the island and sit and within seconds the terns start landing again. That is how I was able to get all of my photos.

There are many ledges and rocks all over the area, so I would suggest not going at low tide if you are in Ted's boat. A smaller boat like mine has no issue at low tide. An approach from the west seems the best in terms of rocks/ledges.

I've checked the maps and it does look like the small island is part of the "Bear Point Thrums". It is owned by DNR and Property Online has it as PID 80157605. There is a plan (Nov 1999), see details below.

Title of Plan: Compiled Plan Showing Owner Unknown Properties (Bear Point Thrums), Barrington Passage, County of Shelburne, Province of Nova Scotia.
Registration District: Shelburne
Registration Reference of Plan: Document # 2257

The island is not named on the plan, but it is the westernmost of the Bear Point Thrums.

I was able to photograph 6 field readable bands as well as one ROST that only had the metal federal band. Below is a list of all 6 field readable bands plus one metal band and then details of the 6 field readables from Ted's website.

Bands: B11, B29, B33, L03, L05, L35 & one unreadable federal band. (total of 7 ROST)
