  2. Violet-green x Cliff Swallow (hybrid)

    Number observed: 1

Comments: Two adult Violet-green Swallows feeding probably four young in a nestbox. Another swallow arrived and investigated the box, sitting on garage roof or nest box roof, put its head inside a little, not aggressive. Parents agitated; swooped at it. Definite ochre forehead like CLSW. Underparts all pale but perhaps not so white as VGSW. Small patch of iridescent greenish on crown. Rump showed pale, may have been completely pale, but possibly pattern of VGSW. Rest of uppers dark, some iridescence, colour not distinct. Tail shape as VGSW or CLSW. It appeared to be a hybrid Violet-green X Cliff Swallow (though David Sibley pointed out it was not possible to eliminate Cave Swallow.) Written up in Bird Watcher's Digest; and in British Columbia Birds. Photographed.
