Slightly smaller than Song Sparrow, looks duller and blurrier overall. Breast is plain gray; immatures sometimes show faint, blurry streaks. Wings are brighter rufous (reddish-brown) than other sparrows. Breeds in cattail marshes and other wetlands; found in a vareity of shrubby habitats during migration and winter, but often in wet areas. Typically not in flocks with other sparrows. Beware of juvenile Song Sparrow, but Swamp typically doesn't show such distinct streaking. Rarely visits feeders.
