Identification

Large black bird with ghostly white face. The blue bare skin on its throat, and white crest and wing patch complete its unique appearance. Largely arboreal and found in a variety of forested habitats including mature rainforests, forest edges, and open woodlands. Most active in the hours before dawn and after dusk when it can often be heard giving its accelerating wing rattle, but it is also sometimes active during the day. Visits clay and mineral licks. Typically found individually or in small groups.
