This was a continuation of the RUFF chase from Saskatoon to the Elbow area. Regina pals Dan, Ryan, Bob and Chris had already staked the bird out for us at "On-The-Way" Slu (which should now be immortalized as RUFF Slu, shouldn't it?!). This wetland is adjacent to Grid 749, 10 km east of the village of Elbow.

Our group of 4 enjoyed the RUFF for about 2.5 hours. However, we needed more coffee and some food, so retired to Elbow-Town for same. Following the much-needed break, we drove south of the village to the Qu'Appelle Valley Dam to check things out there. In the meantime, the other birders now reported rediscovering the RUFF at a large wetland about 8 kms east of Ruff Slu.

We burned back north, then east again on Grid 749. By the time we arrived, all the birders had left, but fortunately the birds hadn't!!!

NOTE: This report is somewhat of a duplicate of Stan Shadick's earlier report, but it does differ in some of the totals. For the record, I named it Mady's Mile Slu after a nearby road sign.

The flock of 48 WFIB were the largest number I've ever seen in SK on one day. As a bonus, they were a lifer for our pal Scott.

Sadly, we never did rediscover the Ruff OR the earlier reported PRFA which would have been a lifer for Ottawa birder Richard.

C'est la vie!!!

We all had deadlines to meet to get back to Saskatoon by mid-afternoon, so we couldn't spend any more time here.
