Identification

Boldly-patterned sparrow found in the understory of deciduous woodlands and at the edge of humid forests. Note the bicolored bill with an orange-yellow lower mandible. It has a black head, a narrow white eyebrow, a white throat, and an unbroken black collar. The wings are olive-green wings and it is whitish below. Subspecies vary in the color of the back, which can be gray or green. The song is a series of high-pitched notes.
