BCN eBird Data Entry Changes

Important Updates Starting in 2024!

The BCN eBird Portal is being replaced with a BCN Survey-specific Protocol

Starting with the 2024 breeding season, BCN Survey monitors will no longer enter their data through eBird.org/BCN or by selecting the BCN eBird Portal in the eBird app.

Instead, simply visit eBird.org or use the eBird app as normal to enter sightings, but when entering sightings from your BCN Survey points, there will be a new "Observation Type" (aka Protocol) instead of "Stationary" that is called "BCN Survey Point Count." Simply select this protocol/observation type, and your data will be correctly assigned to the BCN Survey (see screenshots below).

Any data collected at your site while traveling between point counts can be entered in the general eBird portal, but keep an eye out for additional changes coming within the next year or so.

See the BCN Survey Point Counts page for a refresher on the point count protocol requirements and recommendations for conducting your surveys.

If you do not see the BCN Survey Point Count protocol listed in eBird and are entering data at ebird.org, please clear your browser cache and internet history then login to eBird and try again. If you are using the eBird mobile app, please ensure that the app is up to date.

If you have questions or need assistance, please contact your county coordinator or email us at bcnsurvey@gmail.com.
