overcast and some light rain at times. gentle swell ,2-3 mts and lessening. Wind : SW-SWS 15 km. Reasonably pleasant conditions.

    Comments: intermediate morph bird observed on shelf. Flew directly over boat allowing for good views - features incl pale grey-brown underparts contrasting strongly with blackish underwing. Overcall colour lacking warmer brown tones typical of Brown, also broad white upperwing flash noted. Pale fringes to feathers in upperwing indicate this bird a juvenile. A second bird [inshore - also approached boat but in poor light and remains unidentified, photographs inconclusive...

    Comments: single bird on shelf. Contrasting white rump, thin black trailing edge to wing, small pointed bill. David Eades regarding this bird "evidently a 1st cycle bird completing its preformative moult -P10 slightly short of full-grown"

    Comments: 2 or more 'whalebirds' observed and ID being discussed.1 bird good candidate for Salvin's Prion. features incl long broad bill, bowed at side and small max unguis not sitting above line of bill . Prominent brow ridge and barring on undertail coverts [more obvious in original photo, some detail lost in upload] also considered good for Salvini.
